Bagels and garlic bread set for sharp price rise as VAT rules change - The Irish Times - Fri, Nov 18, 2011 → irishtimes.com

So garlic bread is not bread? I though it was bread with garlic butter baked in it. The Finance Dept doesn’t think so, anything that did not “generally conform to the ingredient definition of bread” is not considered as bread. It’s not just garlic bread, bagels, croissants and other similar baked products don’t fall in the category of bread. Will there be an increase of people make their own at home? Or are Irish people just take it in the jaw with this VAT increase and just blame it on rip-off Ireland?
